Why Choose Organic?

…reared on a natural diet of grass and put under less stress.

We believe passionately that organically produced food is better for the consumer, the livestock and for the environment.

  • At Whaddon Grove we do not see organic farming as just a modern fad, but a benchmark of excellence for animal welfare, sustainability and the quality of our produce. It is only in the last few generations that British farmers have generally stopped farming organically.

  • We are accredited by the Soil Association which sets very high standards for the management of our land, the care of our animals and the preparation of our meat. The Soil Associations five reasons for buying Organic are:

    • your well-being – Organic farming minimises the use of artificial chemicals and bans the use of growth hormones in animals;

    • the environment – Organic farming releases less greenhouse gases than non-organic farming – choosing organic, local and seasonal food can significantly reduce your carbon footprint;

    • animal welfare – Organic standards insist that animals are given plenty of space and fresh air to thrive and grow - guaranteeing a truly free-range life;

    • protecting wildlife – Organic farms are havens for wildlife and provide homes for bees, birds and butterflies. In fact, the UK Government’s own advisors found that plant, insect and bird life is up to 50% greater on organic farms;

    • GM-free – genetically modified crops and ingredients are banned under organic standards. You may be surprised to know that over a million tonnes of GM crops are imported each year to feed non-organic livestock which produce pork, bacon, milk, cheese and other dairy products.
